Feedback on meeting with the Mayor at the Parow Civic Centre this evening, 6 September 2022
The ward committee members, James Ellis, Jas Visser, Mogamad Safedien and Ismaeel Hamdulay attended the meeting.
The following issues were tabled
- When will MyCiti Bus routes start in Northern Suburbs. – James Ellis
The City is working with this project in phases. Currently they busy and should start Phase 2 A within next year, which is Southern Suburbs ( Claremont, Lansdowne, Wetton etc)
Northern Suburbs is not high on the priority list due to the fact that we have the Voortrekker Corridor covered by Taxis, Golden Arrow and the Railway Line by Prasa.
- Deployment of LEAP Officers – James Ellis
City is deploying LEAP Officers to high risk areas as per the National Crime Stats. Mayor is indicating that he is busy employing another 80 Officers and will deploy Officers when and as needs arises all over the City.
In the meantime, all areas are covered by Law Enforcement Officers.
- Condition of Public Areas in Ward 27 – James Ellis
Mayor indicated that they do take responsibility for tenders not in place and which currently is serving in Court. In the meantime programs will be going into place whereby Parks Dept will roll out the mowing of parks and public areas. Programs will be shared with communities in few days time.
- Condition of Roads in Ward 27. – John Ross / Mogamad Safedien
Mr Hilton of Roads to discuss and take detail of work done in area in order for City to take action against those contractors / employees in from City for the poor workmanship done in Ward 27.
- Vagrants – Mogamad Safedien
This has been taken over in Ward 27.
Mayor indicates that no one is allowed to remove these individuals due to the Court order. Should you move them, additional accommodation should be provided to these people. Safe spaces has already been put up in Bellville, Koelenborg, Sea Point and future areas are planned for Durbanville, Muizenberg, Parkland and Table View.
All necessary support should be given to these people in order to assist, like Social Welfare, Health etc.
City is not into supporting private safe spaces as they cannot financially contribute.
- After meeting the discussion on the roads infrastructure and winter readiness were discussed.
A program has been tabled whereby the Mayor requested urgent feedback on the road infrastructure for Goodwood.
More money will be allocated towards Goodwood for the upgrade and repairs of our roads which currently is in such a bad state.
Instructions have been given to remove all roots from the trees that has an impact on the stormwater drains. More teams will be deployed in order to attend to the system and clear out our drains to prevent overflow and structural damage.
An on-site meeting will take place on 14 September 2022 in Goodwood by Rob Quintas and Sub Council Chair, Councillor and other officials. James Ellis will be present as Ward Committee Rep. Viewing our roads and the conditions here off.

We are requesting that the Goodwood community specify street names / locations where potholes and road damage is in desperate need in order to provide to the Sub Council Chair.
